Thanksgiving

This weekend is Thanksgiving here in Canada, and that means a long weekend, more fall fairs, the leaves changing colours, and turkey. Lots of turkey. With stuffing, mashed potatoes, green beans, squash, and pie. Lots of pie. Pumpkin is the classic, but no one complains about apple, berry, pecan… Well, you get the idea.

Thanksgiving isn’t a big card-sending holiday. You might send one to family or close friends, but it’s not like at christmas. They do sell cards for it though, and I found one by a stationary by the name of Papyrus. It’s a beautiful card, but it sells for $7.95USD which would make it over $10CAD. A bit too pricey for just one card, but I knew it would be easy to get more out of it though.

So this is what the card looked like out of the package.

This is what it looked like when I scavenged it for ‘parts’. I cut around the pies, used a die to punch out the sentiment from the liner, and another die to cut flags out of the back of the card – which is a lovely heavy weight cardstock, that I stamped the “autumn greetings” sentiment on.

And here is an example of a finished card. A doily, some shimmer mist, and some washi, on a piece of kraft cardstock that I folded to make a 5″x5″ card. I was able to make six Thanksgiving pie cards from that one beautiful card, and they were quick and easy to assemble.

Autumn Greetings

It’s the start of autumn in this part of the world, and I couldn’t be more excited. I love autumn. It’s full of warm days, cool nights, blue skies, and vibrant leaves. Here in Canada, it’s Thanksgiving in just two short weeks, and Thanksgiving is my favourite holiday. In part because of the weather, but in part because it’s a holiday that’s so simple. A day to spend time with loved ones, enjoying a meal, and allowing yourself to feel like the luckiest person in the world for all the good things you have in your life. It’s a very warm and cozy holiday.

So when I put together this month’s mood board, I wanted to capture some of that. A bit of nature, the hint of food, and colours that reminded me of warm socks. (See, inspiration can come from anything – haha) But I also wanted to challenge myself to create a mood board that wasn’t just about autumn here in the northern hemisphere. I wanted something that would work for any season. I went for images that had a lot of muted colours, punctuated by select vibrant tones that look like gems against the greys.

Included in the mood board are two free printables of some beautiful feathers. The line sketch feathers are from Oh So Lovely, and the block print style feathers are from Little Honey Pie.
