printable – the light up north

November is a pretty grey month around here. The last of the leaves fall, frosty and crisp changes to icy and cold. Brightness comes from the start of christmas lights, decorations and music – which have been sneaking into stores since September, but that most people don’t acknowledge until after halloween :)

This mood board has a lot of neutrals – blacks, whites, greys, and some punchy accent colours. There’s a strong graphic feel to most of the pins too. Handwritten quotes, bold stripes, and illustrations of animals. There’s also a great printable of cassette tapes from the Scrappy Sticky Inky Mess blog. Love the idea of writing little note or title on their labels. Think it’s time to put together a new playlist, reminisce about mixed tapes, and dig through some old photos to work with.

It’s the start of autumn in this part of the world, and I couldn’t be more excited. I love autumn. It’s full of warm days, cool nights, blue skies, and vibrant leaves. Here in Canada, it’s Thanksgiving in just two short weeks, and Thanksgiving is my favourite holiday. In part because of the weather, but in part because it’s a holiday that’s so simple. A day to spend time with loved ones, enjoying a meal, and allowing yourself to feel like the luckiest person in the world for all the good things you have in your life. It’s a very warm and cozy holiday.

So when I put together this month’s mood board, I wanted to capture some of that. A bit of nature, the hint of food, and colours that reminded me of warm socks. (See, inspiration can come from anything – haha) But I also wanted to challenge myself to create a mood board that wasn’t just about autumn here in the northern hemisphere. I wanted something that would work for any season. I went for images that had a lot of muted colours, punctuated by select vibrant tones that look like gems against the greys.

Included in the mood board are two free printables of some beautiful feathers. The line sketch feathers are from Oh So Lovely, and the block print style feathers are from Little Honey Pie.
